Many Thanksgiving parties will feature a selection of soft drinks. You need to avoid this drink at all costs because it is not a friend of your teeth. Every drink you take increases the risk for tooth decay. On top of that, I imagine that your dessert will contain enough sugar for the day. Consider enjoying some tea, water or milk instead.
Drink Lots of Water
That brings us to the next tip. It is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day. While eating for a majority of your Thanksgiving, the mouth doesn’t have the time to produce saliva and wash away bacteria. When these food particles sit on the teeth, they cause erosion to the enamel. Drinking water after meals will help to keep your teeth clean.
Guard Your Teeth
Thanksgiving is an important time to protect your teeth, especially if you wear braces. Don’t crack nuts or open bottles with your teeth. You also want to avoid hard, sticky food such as caramel popcorn. These substances can crack the teeth or break your braces.
Choose Your Foods Carefully
The Thanksgiving bounty is full of options, some good and some not so good. It is important that you choose wisely for the sake of your teeth and body. Avoid sugary items as much as possible and stick to items you know your teeth will thank you for.
